Cross-platform YMS mobile service for digitized yard operations

A US-based beverage manufacturer needed to digitize yard jockey operations and reduce manual coordination across plant yards. Limited real-time visibility into trailer movements and workforce activities made day-to-day yard management inefficient. CES developed a cross-platform YMS mobile service integrated with the YMS admin portal—delivering real-time task visibility, trailer tracking, and mobile-driven workforce execution.

The Need

The manufacturer needed a mobile-first yard management solution to improve administrative oversight of yard jockey operations and reduce manual effort. Leadership required real-time visibility into trailer locations, jockey tasks, and workforce activity across plant yards, while supporting mobile execution in dynamic, on-ground conditions.

Challenges

  • Manual Yard Operations: Yard jockey coordination and task tracking relied heavily on manual processes, increasing effort and limiting responsiveness.
  • Lack of Real-Time Visibility: Administrators had limited real-time insight into trailer movements, jockey locations, and task status across the yard.
  • Multi-Platform Mobile Requirements: The mobile solution had to be user-friendly, visually intuitive, and compatible across multiple devices and platforms used by yard jockeys.

CES designed and delivered a cross-platform YMS mobile service tightly integrated with the existing YMS admin portal to digitize yard operations end to end.

Cross-Platform YMS Mobile Application

  • Built the mobile service using Xamarin to support multiple platforms and devices.
  • Designed a user-friendly and visually intuitive interface tailored for yard jockey workflows.

Real-Time Workforce & Yard Visibility

  • Enabled real-time task lists, trailer assignments, and status updates for yard jockeys.
  • Synced mobile activity with the YMS admin portal for centralized oversight.

Geofencing & SignalR Notifications

  • Implemented geofencing to trigger location-based alerts and updates.
  • Used in-app SignalR notifications for real-time communication and task changes.

Offline Execution Support

  • Supported offline functionality to allow uninterrupted task execution in low-connectivity zones.
  • Automatically synchronized updates with the admin portal once connectivity was restored.

Cloud-Based Backend & Integration

  • Leveraged Microsoft Azure for backend services and scalability.
  • Used MongoDB for flexible data storage and operational tracking.
  • Reduced Manual Coordination – Yard teams accessed real-time data instead of relying on manual updates.
  • Accurate Trailer & Activity Tracking – Improved visibility into trailer locations and jockey movements.
  • Improved Task Visibility – Administrators tracked task status and location updates in real time.
  • Streamlined Workforce Operations – Mobile and portal synchronization improved execution flow.
  • Faster On-Ground Response – Geofencing alerts enhanced responsiveness within yard operations.
